During the court hearing on January 25, Adv. Vivek Tankha had sided with Munawwar Farooqi. It was not intended to hurt anyone’s religious feelings. Farooqi had said that he respects all religions. Police investigations and hearings will take a long time. He had also requested for bail.
So, the government had also moved the court in this case. Other states have also filed cases against Farooqi for hurting religious sentiments. The ruling party had said that Farooqi’s actions had hurt the religious sentiments of the people and that he should not be granted bail.
Munawwar Farooqi was arrested by Indore police on January 1 on charges of making offensive remarks against Hindu deities and Lord Ram-Sita, as well as Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He is accused of making offensive statements in comedy shows. Eklavya Singh Goud, son of BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Goud, had lodged a complaint with the police.
